Fuses and circuit breakers are the most critical component in an electrical installation - both fuses and circuit breakers interrupt the flow of electricity. However, they do so in very different ways. A typical household breaker has a spring-loaded mechanism inside that trips when there’s too much current flowing through it. On the other hand, a fuse wire burns up if exposed to excessive heat.
Fuses can be quicker for interrupting the flow of power, but when they melt they must be replaced; circuit breakers on the other hand just need to be reset.
Rewiring a fuse with the incorrect fuse wire, or the incorrect material (eg. fencing wire or copper wire), doesn't protect the installation properly and can result in a fire.
